چکیده
The AES has launched an opportunity to recognize student members who author technical papers. The Student Paper Award Competition is based on the preprint manuscripts accepted for the AES convention. A number of student-authored papers were nominated. The excellent quality of the submissions has made the selection process both challenging and exhilarating. The award-winning student paper will be honored during the Convention, and the student-authored manuscript will be considered for publication in a timely manner for the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society. Nominees for the Student Paper Award were required to meet the following qualifications: (a) The paper was accepted for presentation at the AES 139th Convention. (b) The first author was a student when the work was conducted and the manuscript prepared. (c) The student author’s affiliation listed in the manuscript is an accredited educational institution. (d) The student will deliver the lecture or poster presentation at the Convention.

Auditory-filter characteristics for listeners with real and simulated hearing impairment.
Functional simulation of sensorineural hearing impairment is an important research tool that can elucidate the nature of hearing impairments and suggest or eliminate compensatory signal-processing schemes. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the capability of an audibility-based functional simulation of hearing loss to reproduce the auditory-filter characteristics of listeners wi...
متن کاملModelling binaural detection of speech stimuli in complex reverberant environments
In listening experiments that assess spatial hearing (e.g. localization) in the presence of background noise it is important to ensure audibility of the target stimulus. Target audibility could be easily controlled using knowledge about the masked thresholds in the respective paradigm. However, if a large number of acoustic conditions as well as target sounds are considered, individual psychoac...
متن کاملAuditory System Development and Dysfunction: What Do We Really Know about Childhood Hearing Loss?
udiologists must have a thorough under-A standing of normal auditory system function in order to diagnose hearing impairment and dys-function. This is particularly true for the pediatric audiologist who works with a very young patient who may provide limited behavioral information. This background knowledge should include familiarity with auditory anatomy and physiology, psy-choacoustics, and s...
متن کاملA measure for predicting audibility discrimination thresholds for spectral envelope distortions in vowel sounds.
Both in speech synthesis and in sound coding it is often beneficial to have a measure that predicts whether, and to what extent, two sounds are different. This paper addresses the problem of estimating the perceptual effects of small modifications to the spectral envelope of a harmonic sound. A recently proposed auditory model is investigated that transforms the physical spectrum into a pattern...
متن کاملDetection Rates of Cortical Auditory Evoked Potentials at Different Sensation Levels in Infants with Sensory/Neural Hearing Loss and Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder.
With the introduction of newborn hearing screening, infants are being diagnosed with hearing loss during the first few months of life. For infants with a sensory/neural hearing loss (SNHL), the audiogram can be estimated objectively using auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing and hearing aids prescribed accordingly. However, for infants with auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) due ...
